The small print
Terms & Privacy
Last updated 3 August 2026 · Build 'n Badger is operated by Reedster LLC.
The gist. Build 'n Badger is a free browser game. There is no account, no sign-up and no password, and nothing here sets a cookie.
The only thing you tell us is the name you type before you play, and that is so the other five badgers know who stomped them. It is kept in your own browser and passed to whoever is in your room. Nobody's chat, level or match is written to a database — rooms live in memory and are gone when the last player leaves.
Visits are counted with a cookieless analytics tool that honours Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control, and it is never told who you are.
Terms of use
By playing Build 'n Badger you agree to what follows. If you do not, the remedy is close to complete: close the tab. There is no account to delete and nothing of yours in a database — only the operational log lines described under Server logs.
What this is
A free browser game, provided as it stands. There is no purchase, no subscription, no account, and nothing to lose access to. You are welcome to play it and to send the link to anybody you would like to stomp.
Playing fair
Rooms are shared with real people, and the server is a small one. Please do not:
- flood, script or otherwise automate connections to the relay, or attempt to exhaust its room or connection limits;
- use chat to harass, threaten or abuse other players, or to post anything unlawful;
- attempt to disrupt other players' matches by interfering with the service rather than by being better at stomping them;
- probe, scan or attack the service or the machine it runs on.
We may close a room or refuse a connection at any time, without notice, where doing so keeps the service working for everybody else.
Chat is live and unmoderated
Messages are relayed between the players in a room as they are typed. They are not reviewed by anybody, not filtered beyond a length limit and a rate limit, and not stored after they are delivered — which also means there is no history for us to look up if you report something. What is said in a room is said by the person who typed it, and it is theirs, not ours. Do not play with strangers you would not chat with.
No promises about availability
The service may be slow, unavailable, changed or discontinued at any time. Rooms are deliberately temporary: they exist in memory only, are dropped when they empty, and are reaped when left idle. A match in progress can end because a server restarted, and that is a normal occurrence rather than a fault.
Ownership
The game's code, its procedurally generated art and its music are © Reedster LLC. All rights are reserved except where a licence is granted in the project's own source repository. Build 'n Badger is an independent homage to Build 'n Bump by Roppy Chop Studios, itself descended from Jump 'n Bump. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to either.
No warranty, and limited liability
The game is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Reedster LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of your use of the game — and its total liability for any claim relating to the game will not exceed what you paid for it, which is nothing. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only as far as that jurisdiction permits.
Governing law
Reedster LLC is a Washington limited liability company. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute arising out of them or out of the game belongs in the state or federal courts sitting in Washington. Where the consumer-protection law of the place you actually live gives you rights this paragraph cannot take away, it does not take them away.
Changes
These terms may change as the game does. The date at the top of this page is when they last did, and continuing to play after that is acceptance of the current version.
Privacy policy
This section says exactly what the game and the server do with data. It is short because the game does very little, and specific because “we value your privacy” is not a description of anything.
There are no accounts and no cookies
Nothing asks for an email address, a password or a sign-in. Neither the landing page nor the game sets a cookie, and nothing here stores a device identifier or a persistent visitor ID.
What stays on your device
Your settings are kept in your browser's own local storage, under the
key bnb.settings, on the origin you played from. That is:
- the name you typed;
- your sound and music levels, and whether the animated sky is on;
- your key and gamepad bindings.
None of it is sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data for this site removes all of it, and the game starts again from its defaults.
What travels through the server while you play
Online play works by relaying messages between the players in one room. While you are in a room, the server passes along:
- the display name you chose, so the scoreboard and kill feed can name you to the other players;
- the four-letter room code;
- your badger's position and inputs, sixty times a second;
- the arena the builder is laying, and anything you type in chat.
None of that is written to a database, because there isn't one. A room is an object in memory: it holds the players currently connected and the level currently being fought on, and it ceases to exist when the last player leaves or when it has been idle long enough to be reaped.
Please treat the name box as public — it is shown to everyone in the room. There is no need to put your real name in it, and a good case for not.
Server logs
Like any web server, this one writes operational log lines: a timestamp, room codes as they are created and closed, and the display name of a player joining a room. They exist so that a fault can be diagnosed, they are not used to build a profile of anybody, and they are retained for as long as the hosting platform keeps a service's logs and no longer. The hosting provider will also see the usual connection metadata, including your IP address, as it must in order to route traffic to you.
Analytics
Page views and a handful of gameplay milestones are counted with
Tastatur, which is cookieless and does
not assign a device identifier. It honours Do Not Track and Global Privacy
Control by default: if your browser sends either, nothing is recorded.
Only utm_* parameters survive from a URL's query string.
The events the game sends carry counts and modes and nothing else. There are eight of them: a practice session starting; a room being opened; a room being joined, with how many players were already in it; a room being rejoined, with roughly how long you were away; a room being left, with whether you chose to, were disconnected, or closed the page, whether you were its host, how many players were in it and how many rounds it had run; a match starting, with a player count; a round finishing, with its number, its kill total, which set of rules it was played under, and whether it was won, ran out of clock or was ended by the arena itself; and a session ending, with how many rounds it lasted. None of them carries a name, a room code, a chat message or a level.
The room-left and session-ended events are also sent if you close the tab in the middle of a match, because that is how most games end and the game is not otherwise told about it. Nothing extra is recorded in order to do that: the same counts listed above are held ready by the page and sent as it closes.
The analytics script is served from this site rather than from tastatur.dev, and the events are relayed through this server, which is a technical necessity rather than a way of hiding it: the game requires cross-origin isolation to run, and under that policy the browser refuses third-party scripts outright. Your IP address and browser user-agent are passed through to Tastatur in that relay, because otherwise every visitor would appear to be the server itself.
What is never done
- Nothing here is sold, rented or traded.
- There is no advertising, and no advertising or social network trackers are embedded on any page.
- Nothing is used to profile you, target you, or follow you to another site.
Children
The game is suitable for a wide audience but is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Since there are no accounts and no database, the only thing held anywhere on our side is the operational logging described above — but if you believe a child has put something into the name box or into chat that ought not to be out there, get in touch and we will help where we can, including by clearing those log lines.
Your choices
- Change or remove your name — type a different one before you play; nothing keeps the old one anywhere but your own browser.
- Delete what is stored about you — clear this site's data in your browser; that is everything except the server log lines described above, which you can ask us to clear.
- Opt out of analytics — enable Do Not Track or
Global Privacy Control, or block
t.js. The game works exactly the same either way. - Play offline — the practice mode never opens a connection to the relay at all.
Changes
If what the game does with data changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
